Garageband or the “Standards”?

I started using computer based DAW back in 1997 with a cheap version of Turtle Beach and a Pentium 2 PC. Since then I’ve used a slew of different types of digital recording equipment, both stand-alone units and computer base. In 2002 I finally had a serious PC system custom built with enough memory and speed to run any professional program out at the time. Then, in 2006 I purchased a Mac ibook G4 and a Digidesign Mbox 2 to do mobile recording.

In regards to software recording applications; I’ve used Cubase SL/SX, Logic, Pro-tools, Cakewalk as well as free programs like Garageband, and Audacity. Today my ibook has taken over as my main DAW as it can do just about everything I need. But in the last year I’ve been wrestling with which software really works best for me. Currently I do most of my midi sequencing for external devices on Protools and regular software sequencing on Garageband. I wanted to see if it was possible to use just 1 software that could do everything I needed fast and efficiently without loosing quality.
